About the museum
The museum is in the Capuchin convent in Reggio Emilia, in Via Ferrari Bonini, and brings together collections of sacred art and ethnographic material linked to the order’s missionary work.
The permanent display of paintings is on the third floor. Among the most important pieces are the altarpiece with Saint Francis praying before the crucifix by Bartolomeo Passarotti, from the Capuchin church, and the canvas with the Holy Family with the young Saint John and the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine of Alexandria by Camillo Procaccini.
A particular group consists of works by Capuchin painters, including the Venetian Paolo Piazza, and above all the paintings by Giuseppe Barnaba Solieri, the Carpi-born friar Stefano da Carpi, a painter, sculptor and engraver of the 18th century.
