About the museum
The Museo Nazionale delle Attività Subacquee (MAS) was inaugurated on 14 November 1998 at Marina di Ravenna. It was created by HDS Italia, an association of divers and palombari (professional divers), together with the Comune di Ravenna, and is part of the Sistema Museale della Provincia di Ravenna and of the Museo Navigante network. The first collection came about thanks to donations from HDS Italia members.
In 2014 the museum was moved to a larger site in the Centro Civico of Marina di Ravenna. Outside are the Monumento al Palombaro, inaugurated in 2019, a turret, a bathysphere and a bell.
The route comprises five thematic rooms: Cristo degli Abissi, Marina Militare, Lavoro Subacqueo, Foto-cine sub and thematic exhibitions. The museum also has a library, open to members, students and researchers, with essays and fiction on the sea, the environment, underwater activities and history.
