About the museum
The museum, set up by the Ente Parco regionale dei Monti Lucretili, is named after Federico Cesi, founder of the Accademia dei Lincei in 1603. It tells the story of the territory from the geological eras to prehistory, with the aim of presenting traces of the communities that lived in the park area.
The route combines traditional display material with interactive tools and computerised cataloguing of the data. On the ground floor the geological eras and the evolution of humankind are presented with large prints, reconstructions and graphics. The first floor houses the park’s only archaeological collection, with flint tools and materials from the local prehistoric communities, and educational activities. The second floor is devoted to the geology and vegetation of the protected area, with panels and audiovisuals.
The collection is linked to some 650 stone artefacts of the Middle Palaeolithic (Mousterian culture), collected between the late 1960s and the 1980s in localities of the Monti Lucretili such as Monte Gennaro, the Pratone and Monte Pellecchia.
