About the museum
The museum is located in the Villa Ducale, built around 1770 by the Bolongaro family on the Stresa lakefront and regarded as the oldest villa in the town. In 1848 it was donated to the philosopher and priest Antonio Rosmini (1797–1855), who spent the last years of his life there.
After Rosmini, the villa was the residence of Duchess Elisabetta of Savoy-Genoa, mother of Queen Margherita, and in 1942 it returned to the Rosminians. Since 1966 it has housed the Centro Internazionale di Studi Rosminiani (International Centre for Rosminian Studies), which also holds a library of over 110,000 volumes.
The museum collects the philosopher’s documents, books, portraits, furnishings, clothing and personal objects. The visit includes the room in which Rosmini lived and died, and the park with views of the lake.
