About the museum
The museum is part of the Seminario Vescovile of Vicenza, an institution founded in 1566 by Bishop Matteo Priuli. The present building was designed after the laying of the foundation stone in 1842 and inaugurated on 4 November 1854. Today the museum is listed among the cultural facilities of the Centro Diocesano “Mons. A. Onisto”.
The collections are housed in five rooms, each about 90 m², which were originally teaching laboratories. Nineteenth-century display cases and shelving hold scientific instruments and zoological, botanical and ethnological specimens collected between the 17th and 19th centuries, as well as minerals, fossils, insects and optical, photographic and astronomical instruments.
After a recent restoration, the museum reopened to the public in 2015 with guided tours. Access is by booking, during the school year.
