About the museum

The museum originated from the studio where the sculptor Venanzo Crocetti worked for a long time. After extending the studio and building the house in which he lived until his death, the artist created over several decades the other rooms that now form the museum complex. Crocetti personally designed every part of the place, conceived as a refuge from the noise of the modern world and later, with its opening to the public, destined to become an art space open to all.

The construction of the museum and of the small villa that would become the seat of the Foundation began in the first half of the 1970s; at the end of the 1990s the multipurpose hall was built. The museum has been open to the public since 2002, obtained the Quality Mark of the Lazio Region in 2009 and is included in the regional museum organisation.

The permanent display brings together the sculptor's works made over more than seventy years of activity, spread across five rooms on two floors. In the basement Crocetti himself created a chapel, with decorations in bronze and in “non finito” white marble, intended to hold his ashes. The house-museum, still furnished as in the artist's time, was opened to visitors in 2013 and since 2015 has been part of the circuit of Roman house-museums.
