About the museum

The Reggia di Monza comprises the Villa Reale, the Royal Gardens and the Park, a complex of great landscape, historical and architectural value. The villa, designed by the architect Giuseppe Piermarini at the end of the 18th century, was a residence of the Habsburgs and later of the Savoy.

The rooms were decorated by artists active from the late 18th century onwards, with original furnishings, finishes and wooden and Venetian-style floors. The route includes the state rooms, among them the octagonal-plan Atrio degli Staffieri, the Salone da Ballo, the Sala degli Arazzi, the Sala del Trono and the Sala degli Specchi.

The Royal Apartments include the Sala del Biliardo with inlaid tables by Giuseppe Maggiolini, the two-level Biblioteca Reale with Sèvres porcelain and the Sala delle udienze; the private apartments of King Umberto and Queen Margherita were redecorated by the court architect Majnoni d'Intignano. The villa's spaces also host temporary exhibitions and are free of architectural barriers.
