About the museum
The Ipogeo di San Manno is located at Ferro di Cavallo, just outside Perugia, inside a medieval house that belonged to the Knights of Malta. It is an Etruscan chamber tomb, dating from between the 3rd and 2nd century BC, which was later reused as the crypt of the small church of San Manno.
The main chamber is a large rectangular hall with a barrel vault, lined with perfectly fitted travertine slabs joined without mortar. On the long sides, two small square chambers, also vaulted, open symmetrically.
Above the entrance arch of the left-hand chamber runs a three-line Etruscan inscription recording a tomb built by Aule and Larth of the Precu family, and commemorating their father Larth and their mother, who came from the Cestna family.
