About the museum
The origins of the Retro auto muzejs (Retro Car Museum) go back to the late 1960s, when the car enthusiast Oļģerts Orleāns began to restore his first car – a 1925 Renault – in his garage. He was one of the first members of the Latvijas Senlietu automobiļu klubs (Latvian Vintage Car Club) in 1972. His son Normunds later learned restoration and helped to build the collection, and today the whole family runs the museum.
The collection has been added to over the years through purchasing, rebuilding and restoring vehicles. The exhibition includes cars, mopeds, motorcycles, motor scooters and bicycles, and visitors can learn about the restoration of old motor vehicles and their history in Latvia.
The association Retro auto muzejs was officially founded in December 2010, the museum was accredited in 2013, and in 2015 it received the status of a public benefit organisation. The museum is located in Riga, at 22a Kantora iela.
