About the museum
The Pilininko namas is the newest exhibition branch of the Lietuvos nacionalinis muziejus. It stands at the foot of Gediminas Hill, and its entrance is in the inner courtyard. It presents the history and culture of Lithuania and the people who contributed to the country's development, as well as the key ideas that shaped Lithuanian identity.
The main exhibition, “Suprasti Lietuvą”, is arranged in six halls, each devoted to one theme: Creation (Kūryba), Beliefs (Tikėjimai), Struggles (Kovos), Turning Points (Lūžiai), Global Connections (Pasauliniai saitai) and Faces (Veidai). The halls survey the most important events and phenomena from the earliest times to the present. In the basements, further stories are told about the craft of the castle keeper (pilininkas), castle keeping, stonemasonry and the city of Vilnius 200 years ago.
