About the museum
Casino Luxembourg – Forum d’art contemporain is housed in a former Casino Bourgeois, a 19th-century historic building on Rue Notre-Dame in the centre of the capital. Since its founding in 1996, the institution has been dedicated to contemporary art, with an international programme that focuses above all on supporting young artists. It understands itself as an art forum beyond museum concerns and as a laboratory for future creation; the early artistic director was Enrico Lunghi (1996 to 2008).
On the ground floor are a library specialising in contemporary art (InfoLab), the ArtBookBox bookshop, an education space and the “Aquarium” for performances, concerts and theatre productions. The first floor is reserved for changing solo or thematic exhibitions. In addition there are tours, lectures, concerts and workshops. The artistic research lab “Casino Display” hosts a post-master’s programme for the first time in the 2025/2026 season.
The house has no collection of its own, but several “permanent works” have remained in and on the building over the years, including “La Surface de l’Art” by Jacques Charlier on the main façade, “A Wise Thought in a Circle” by Nedko Solakov and “Beautiful Steps #10” by the duo Lang/Baumann on the façade facing Rue Notre-Dame.
