About the museum
Ta’ Ħaġrat was discovered in 1917 and lies in the village of Mġarr in the north-west of Malta. It is part of the group of megalithic sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992.
The site has two megalithic structures. The larger and older one has a semi-circular façade with a monumental doorway; the smaller structure was added later in prehistory. Everything is built of local Upper Coralline Limestone. Excavations took place in 1923, 1925, 1926, 1953 and 1961.
