About the museum
ANNO opened in 2022 on the Melkmarkt in Zwolle, on the site of the former Stedelijk Museum Zwolle. The museum is a joint initiative of Collectie Overijssel, the heritage department of the City of Zwolle and the Stichting Allemaal Zwolle. For the first time, the city's heritage collections are to be brought together under one roof: museum, archaeology, building history, monument conservation and archive.
The museum tells the history of Zwolle through the eyes of the people who shape the city. In the listed Drostenhuis, visitors meet well-known and lesser-known people of Zwolle, including the democracy campaigner Joan Derk van der Capellen tot den Pol and the founder of the Modern Devotion, Thomas a Kempis. A new-build section with free access complements the historic building, and there is also an Erfgoedlab where visitors can do their own research, an archive with a research room (“Lokaal”), a café, a museum shop and a garden. ANNO is also the city's tourist information point.
