About the museum

The association "Eevm Omkiekn" was founded in 1986 to preserve tools and equipment from the long-vanished mixed farming of the southern Westerkwartier. Jan Boerema initiated the collection; through many donations it grew into today's agricultural and regional museum. The name comes from the Groningen word "rieuw" for tool.

The museum is located on the Coendersborg estate in Nuis. Since its reopening on 1 May 2012 it has been housed in the restored Kimm-Boerderij, having previously been shown in a barn of the Coendersborg. The volunteer members of the association look after the house and collection to this day.

The core collection comprises tools, machines and household objects as used on the farms of the region until the 1960s. In the dairy corner the making of cheese and butter can be seen, and on occasion there are cheesemaking demonstrations. In the barn stand farm machinery and milk kettles, in the Kapschuur a carpenter's workshop and a smithy, and outdoors larger mowing and haymaking machines as well as ploughs. A temporary exhibition is devoted each year to a topic from the region; activities take place in summer.
