About the museum
Museum Villa opened on September 13, 2025 as a private art museum on the Westergasterrein in Amsterdam West. It is housed in the listed engineer's house of the former gasworks, which once served architect Isaac Gosschalk as his residence.
The house has no permanent collection. Instead, contemporary artists design the building: twelve rooms each become a separate installation or work, meant to have an immediate effect without prior knowledge or lengthy explanations. The works are often colorful, playful and large-scale, relying on sensory experiences with light, sound and sculpture.
The concept places the visitor's experience at the center. Dutch media have described it as a house in which every artist gets a room of their own.
