About the museum

Museum 't Kiekhuus ("peek house" in Stellingwerfs) has existed since 1988 in the former De Korenschoof bakery in Wolvega. It grew out of the collecting passion of a couple who still live in the house today and personally guide every visitor through the rooms.

The collection dates from "grandmother's time": a fully furnished colonial goods shop, a school class with old benches and school wall charts by Cornelis Jetses, and tin packaging and enamel signs recall the childhood of earlier generations. A cigar shop from "grandfather's time" was added in 1997; since 2018, a bakery shop with baking equipment has shown the history of the house. The last baker, Michiel Peereboom, stopped baking in 1972.

Since September 2018, the Stichting Museum 't Kiekhuus (foundation) has managed the collection, which has developed into a full-fledged museum. The house is involved in educational projects for primary schools and makes use of the regional language Stellingwerfs.
