About the museum
The Vredegoed farm complex in Tienhoven was built in 1906 to a design by W. van Vreeswijk as a long house with a front house for a dairy farm with a cheese dairy. Art Nouveau elements were used throughout the design; a cart shed and an iron entrance gate from this period still stand on the farm. All of these parts are protected as a Rijksmonument.
The museum goes back to 2009: the well-known former postman of Tienhoven wanted to leave the village and was looking for a place for his small private museum. Volunteers under the then chairman Hans Schuman then converted the farm's stables into the museum, with many villagers helping. In early 2010 the Streekmuseum was officially opened. As more and more old objects were donated, two additional open-air areas were created on the farm in 2017 and 2019. Since 2016 the museum has been a rest stop for cyclists and hikers, and since 2018 it has been the official starting point of the "Zoddenpad" walking trail.
The collection shows, in many small scenes, life and work from around 1900 to about 1950 in the villages of Tienhoven and Oud-Maarsseveen and in the surrounding peat bog area: objects from farm and rural everyday life, looked after by volunteers whose stories further enliven the visit. The museum is near cycle junction 48 and is also a starting point for tours through the countryside around the Vecht and the Loosdrechtse Plassen.
