About the museum
Interkulturelt Museum is housed in the premises of the former Grønland police station by the Tøyenbekken stream. The old cells are now used as exhibition rooms, and the building gives the museum an unusual setting for exhibitions on current social themes, art and culture.
The museum addresses prejudice, diversity and what it means to live in a multicultural city. Visitors are invited to challenge their own preconceptions and to gain a better understanding of other cultures. The permanent exhibition “Typisk dem” (Typically Them) focuses on the prejudices we all carry with us.
Interkulturelt Museum is part of Stiftelsen Oslo Museum, which was established in 2006 through the merger of Bymuseet, Teatermuseet and Interkulturelt Museum. The savings bank foundation Sparebankstiftelsen DNB has been an important contributor to modernising the premises and making the activities more accessible.
