About the museum
Norges Olympiske Museum is in the visitor centre at Maihaugen in Lillehammer, in the same area as the open-air museum. The museum highlights sports history and Norway's greatest Olympic achievements, and tells the story of the Olympic Games from antiquity to modern times. It is part of Stiftelsen Lillehammer museum, and the ticket also gives admission to Maihaugen.
The exhibitions are based on original objects, interactive installations and films. "OL-historien fra antikken til nåtid" (The Olympic story from antiquity to the present) follows the development from the first Games in Olympia in ancient Greece; "Norge i OL" (Norway at the Olympics) shows medals, equipment and stories about Norwegian athletes; and "Norge som vertsnasjon" (Norway as host nation) tells of the Winter Olympics in Oslo in 1952 and in Lillehammer in 1994. The Paralympics and the Youth Olympics are also part of the story.
In a cinema room with a 180-degree screen, visitors can watch films such as "Inside the Race" and "Magical Moments" and follow events from the 1952 and 1994 Games. In a separate ski-jump installation in the middle of the museum, film clips from both Games are shown.
