About the museum

Galeria Dzwonków has operated since 2019 in the historic building of the former seat of the Spółka Bracka at ul. 1 Maja in Jastrzębie-Zdrój. Until 2008 bells from the collection of Father Antoni Łatko were displayed in the same place; that collection later went to a monastery in Warsaw. The present gallery is a separate private collection belonging to Krzysztof Zaga, a native of Jastrzębie, who tells guests about the history of the individual exhibits.

According to different sources, the collection numbers between about 10 thousand and more than 13 thousand bells and ringing instruments from several continents. It has grown through gifts from residents and visitors, and after a break the gallery was reopened, enriched by several hundred new exhibits.

The exhibition fills three rooms. The first shows herdsmen's bells used in the Alps and the Carpathians, as well as souvenir bells. The second holds old small and large bells, including African amulet bells. The third houses bells made of porcelain, clay, ceramic and glass, as well as bells made from unusual materials, such as volcanic lava.
