About the museum

The Izba Pamięci Ziemi Mszczonowskiej was set up through cooperation between the local council and local civic activists, including councillor Barbara Gryglewska and members of the Mszczonowskie Stowarzyszenie Historyczne (Mszczonów Historical Association). It aims to collect memorabilia on the rich history of the area: its wartime past, its craft traditions and its local notables. It is located in Mszczonów at ul. Warszawska 23.

The display consists of several halls. The September Hall documents the defence of 1939 and the German occupation, when half of the town’s residents perished and 85% of its buildings were destroyed. The general town hall is devoted to Mszczonów’s crafts and the town’s history from the earliest times to the PRL period. The Hall of Fame presents memorabilia of people who made the Mszczonów Land famous, as well as historic documents, mainly from the 19th century. A fourth, ethnographic hall, with a reconstruction of a pre-war living room and Mszczonów furniture, is currently closed to visitors.

At a different address, ul. Kościuszki 1, a separate Izba Pamięci Rodziny Maklakiewiczów (Maklakiewicz Family Memorial Room) operates. Both institutions are run by the Gminne Centrum Informacji w Mszczonowie.
