About the museum
The Izba Tradycji (Tradition Room) was created on 11 December 2002, on the 75th anniversary of the start of services on the Elektryczne Koleje Dojazdowe (EKD, Electric Suburban Railways) line, at the premises of the Warsaw Suburban Railway company (Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa, WKD) in Grodzisk Mazowiecki. It was founded by WKD employees and railway enthusiasts. In September 2008 the institution took the name of Tadeusz Gawroński, one of its founders and its first curator.
The collection includes photographs, documents and tickets, accessories from the rolling stock and infrastructure used on the EKD and WKD lines, and items of staff equipment. Among the more recent exhibits is a reconstructed ticket office with the offices of the station master and his deputy. The room also contains two models of parts of the stations in Grodzisk Mazowiecki and Komorów, and dioramas showing infrastructure and rolling stock.
In November 2022 the collection was moved to the historic building of the former EKD electric locomotive depot from 1927. Alongside the memorabilia, original rolling stock can be seen there: the EN80-16 motor car from 1926, the EN94-40 electric multiple unit from 1972, a flatcar from 1888 and the 409Da-786 diesel locomotive from 1984. In front of the building stand the EN94-17 set and the 401Da-314 diesel locomotive. In 2025 WKD employees completed the restoration of the EN94-34 set, returning it to its 1972 factory appearance.
