About the museum
The idea for a collection of frog figurines was put forward in early 2007 by Andrzej Jendrych, later the museum’s curator. In February 2007 the authorities of the Żabia Wola commune made a room on the first floor of the House of Culture available for the collection; the House of Culture is located in a 19th-century manor house. The organising committee established contacts with national parks, environmental organisations and the Biology Department of the University of Warsaw, and the actor Wojciech Siemion became chairman of the honorary committee.
The museum opened on 21 May 2007 during the Dni Żabiowolskie (Żabia Wola Days), when it had about 400 exhibits. Most of the collection comes from donations by private individuals, and some exhibits are on loan. The collection includes figurines, illustrations and books, among them the first Polish edition of a textbook on frogs from 1926.
The museum was renovated in 2023. Today it has about 2,200 exhibits, and visitors can listen to a recording in which the curator tells the story of the collection. For children there are colouring pages, frog masks to make yourself, postcards and badges.
