About the museum
The Muzeum Techniki Militarnej Riese – Mölke (Riese – Mölke Military Technology Museum) operates in Miłków, part of Ludwikowice Kłodzkie, on the site of the former “Wenceslaus” coal mine. The first mentions of coal mining at this place go back to the 17th century. After a mining disaster in 1930 the mine barely survived until its closure in 1939.
In 1939–1945 an ammunition factory of the Dynamit AG concern (DAG Ludwigsdorf) operated on the mine site, employing forced labourers. In May 1945 the site was taken over by the Red Army, and later the power plant was run by Polish authorities. Most of the buildings were demolished, but a bunker and the characteristic reinforced-concrete ring known as the Muchołapka (Fly Trap) survive.
The museum is run by the Stowarzyszenie Riese (Riese Association), which also looks after the Muzeum Włodarz near Jugowice. The tour includes an open-air exhibition of military vehicles and equipment, and the damp underground corridors of the bunker with an exhibition on the Wunderwaffe programme and the Riese complex. The visit usually begins with an introduction by a guide, after which the site is toured independently.
