About the museum
The Museum of Minerals is a private geological and natural history institution created by the collector Robert Borzęcki, who previously worked at the Museum of Technology and Industry in Warsaw. It opened in May 2001 in Złoty Stok. It later changed location several times: from 2005 to 2012 it operated in Nowa Ruda, from 2012 to 2014 in Kłodzko, and then it returned to Nowa Ruda. It operates under the patronage of the “Spirifer” Geological Society.
The exhibition is housed in the buildings of a former coal mine at ul. Obozowa 4, next to the Dawna Kopalnia Nowa Ruda (former Nowa Ruda mine). The collection comprises more than 2,700 specimens in eight collections: world minerals, Polish minerals, gemstones, meteorites, rocks, amber with inclusions, fossils and teaching collections.
The exhibition also includes meteorites, among them fragments from Mars and the Moon, and some of the first dinosaur bones found in Poland, from Lipie Śląskie. Part of this material is shown at the Paleontological Museum in Lisowice.
