About the museum
The Muzeum Bambrów Poznańskich was established on 29 November 2003 on the initiative of the Society of Poznań Bambers (Towarzystwo Bambrów Poznańskich), with the support of Poznań residents and numerous sponsors. The museum building also houses the seat of the society. The institution documents the history of the descendants of settlers from the area around Bamberg.
The exhibition recreates a Bamberg house typical of villages near Poznań at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: the entrance hall (sień), the living room (izba mieszkalna), a small parlour for special guests (salonik), a storeroom (komora) and a kitchen, with a small garden in front of the building. Upstairs are shown Bamberg costumes, bonnets, ribbons, shawls and aprons, family documents, sztambuchy (autograph albums), decorations and letters concerning persecution during the Second World War, postcards and agricultural tools. In the hall hangs an 18th-century map of Poznań, and beside the entrance stands a roadside shrine with a figure of Christ the Man of Sorrows (Chrystus Frasobliwy).
The museum also collects research materials: archival documents, interviews, descriptions of villages, maps, and library and iconographic collections.
