About the museum
The Muzeum Cukrownictwa w Pszennie (Pszenno Sugar Museum) has operated since 2008 on the premises of the production plant “Cukrownia Świdnica”. It was set up on the initiative of, and with funding from, the sugar producer Südzucker Polska. The location was chosen for good reason: the first beet campaign in Pszenno took place in 1842, and the sugar factory is one of the oldest still operating in the European Union.
The main part of the museum is an exhibition hall in a building from 1940, which houses more than 1,000 exhibits relating to beet cultivation, sugar production, laboratory work and storage, as well as everyday objects such as sugar bowls. The exhibition is divided into thematic zones, including cultivation, history, production, the laboratory and the warehouse, with a symbolic wall of sugar sacks in the storage section.
Complementing it are an open-air exhibition of old agricultural machines and tools, a hall with a collection of heavy equipment from former sugar factories, and a small exhibition in former garages with forge tools and memorabilia of former factories.
