About the museum
The Museum of Dobre Miasto is housed in the Stork Tower (Baszta Bociania), a 15th-century remnant of the former town fortifications. The tower owes its name to the storks nesting on its top. In 1969 the building was handed over to the local branch of the Social and Cultural Association “Pojezierze”, which carried out the renovation and adaptation of the tower in 1970–1973 and opened the museum in 1973.
The exhibition occupies the top floors of the five-storey tower and presents memorabilia of the history of the town and Warmia: old maps of the Warmian bishopric, town plans, photographs and photocopies of old documents, as well as fossils found during the construction of the road from Olsztyn to Bezled. There is a small café on the ground floor.
The two lower floors have housed the “Baszta Bociania” Gallery since 2000, which shows exhibitions of painting, graphics and art textiles by professional and amateur artists. The tower also hosts regional classes for kindergarten children and school pupils.
