Muzeum „Dom Gazety Olsztyńskiej”

Branch of the Muzeum Warmii i Mazur in a reconstructed house of the editorial office of “Gazeta Olsztyńska”, with exhibitions on the newspaper and the history of Olsztyn.

Opening hoursAdmission 19 zł

About the museum

The Dom Gazety Olsztyńskiej is located in a reconstructed building at Targ Rybny in Olsztyn, where the editorial office of “Gazeta Olsztyńska” operated from 1920 to 1939. The newspaper, published since 1886, was a centre of Polish independence activity in Warmia. In April 2026 the museum marked the 140th anniversary of the first issue.

The permanent exhibition “Gazeta Olsztyńska” (1886–1939) presents the activity of the newspaper and its role in sustaining Polishness in Warmia; its layout recalls the appearance of a former printing house. The second permanent exhibition is “Olsztyn. Szkice do dziejów miasta” (Olsztyn: Sketches of the City’s History), devoted to the people who shaped the history of the city.

The house is one of the branches of the Muzeum Warmii i Mazur in Olsztyn. The programme also includes temporary exhibitions, museum lessons and workshops. The combined ticket also covers the Zamek Biskupi w Lidzbarku Warmińskim (Bishops’ Castle in Lidzbark Warmiński) and the Muzeum Przyrody (Museum of Nature).
