About the museum
The mission of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum is to disseminate knowledge about the life, struggle and Holocaust of Polish Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto and in other ghettos in German-occupied Poland. The museum runs commemorative projects, publishes historical essays, a calendar and materials about the people of the ghetto, and also builds its own museum collection.
The new seat is being built on the grounds of the historic Bersohn and Bauman Children’s Hospital at ul. Sienna 60 and ul. Śliska 51. The complex consists of four buildings: two renovated historic buildings – the former hospital, in which the permanent exhibition is being set up, and the ophthalmology pavilion, which will become the Education Centre – and two new buildings, administrative and technical. The design is by the Autorska Pracownia Projektowa Jerzego Wowczaka. Three underground levels have been built beneath the garden, which will house the galleries of the permanent exhibition, storerooms and conservation workshops.
Visitors will enter from ul. Śliska through the arcade of the new building. On level −1 there are to be ticket offices, a shop, a temporary exhibition hall, cloakrooms and a Mediateka with digital resources, and on the ground floor a bistro. In October 2026 facade and finishing works are under way, along with the installation of structures for the display cases and stage sets of the future permanent exhibition. Until the museum opens, it organises educational walks, lectures, seminars and events in other places in Warsaw.
