About the museum
The beginnings of the museum in Piaseczno date back to 1966. At first it was a memorial room, from mid-1970 a social regional museum, later the Ośrodek Tradycji Kółek Rolniczych (Centre of the Tradition of Agricultural Circles), and finally a branch of the Muzeum Historii Polskiego Ruchu Ludowego (Museum of the History of the Polish Peasant Movement) based in Warsaw, subordinate to the local government of the Masovian Voivodeship. The museum is located in the village of Piaseczno near Gniew, in the Kociewie region.
The permanent exhibition in two rooms tells the story of agricultural circles and social and patriotic organisations. Piaseczno is connected with Juliusz Kraziewicz, founder of the Agricultural Circle in Piaseczno, the first organisation of its kind in Poland, so documents and photographs of his activity have been gathered here. The exhibits are the result of the work of the local community, the passion of pupils of the Piaseczno school and the goodwill of older residents.
The most interesting souvenirs include the banner of the Powstańcy i Wojacy – Koło w Piasecznie (Insurgents and Soldiers – Circle in Piaseczno) from 1927, the banner of the Towarzystwo Ludowe w Piasecznie (Peasant Society in Piaseczno) from 1911, and a reconstruction of the banner of the Agricultural Circle from 1937. The exhibition is complemented by an ethnographic collection from Kociewie and Pomerania, which includes, among other things, a dowry chest from 1872, a clay plate from 1804 with an inscription in the Kociewie dialect, old work tools and a cast-iron stove.
