About the museum
The Izba Muzealna (Museum Room) was established in 1967 on the initiative of the Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Lanckorony (Friends of Lanckorona Society), with the involvement of Kraków professor Antoni Krajewski, after whom it is named. It is housed in a wooden house on the market square, whitewashed every year, which was the only wooden building on the square to survive the great fire of the town in 1869. The house dates from at least the mid-19th century and probably belonged to a wealthy merchant, as shown by its four windows at the front and the deeply projecting eaves under which stalls were set up.
Most of the collection dates from the late 19th and first half of the 20th century. It consists of household equipment, furniture, paintings, everyday objects and belongings of local residents, as well as finds from excavations on the site of the Lanckorona castle. Visitors can see a model of the market square and a section on the Confederation of Bar, which displays copies of documents, maps and biographies related to the Lanckorona area.
The museum is run by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury w Lanckoronie (Municipal Culture Centre in Lanckorona). The room also houses the documentation centre of the Ekomuzeum Lanckorona (Lanckorona Ecomuseum), and visitors can also see the Sala Zbiorów Kazimierza Wiśniaka (Kazimierz Wiśniak Collection Room) at the same institution.
