About the museum

The Muzeum Regionalne w Skawinie (Skawina Regional Museum) was founded under an agreement signed on 23 January 2008 between the Gmina Skawina, represented by the mayor, and the Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Skawiny (Friends of Skawina Society). It is entered in the register of the commune’s cultural institutions and presents the cultural and historical heritage of the region.

The permanent exhibitions cover the history of Skawina from prehistory to 1939, the history of schooling and theatre, the history of the volunteer fire brigade and the Sokół societies, the history of Skawina’s industry, the occupation period up to the post-war years, and an ethnographic exhibition on Skawina costumes. The museum also holds a collection of paintings by Ludwik Lipowczan, and runs temporary exhibitions, educational classes and workshops.

One exhibition recalls the town’s former industrial enterprises, among them a steam brewery from 1895, an oil refinery from the early 20th century and a factory of stoneware and fireclay products founded in 1909.
