About the museum

The Cold War Museum is located in the cellars of a former police station of the Citizens' Militia (Milicja Obywatelska) at ul. Jezuicka 1/3 in Warsaw's Old Town. In the same building the school-leaver Grzegorz Przemyk was murdered in 1983, as the museum's website recalls.

The exhibition presents the entire Cold War from a Polish perspective and is the only institution of its kind in Poland. The story centres on Ronald Reagan, John Paul II and General Ryszard Kukliński, and also covers, among others, Stalin, Churchill, Truman, Thatcher, Gorbachev and Jaruzelski. The events discussed include the Yalta Conference, the Truman Doctrine, the Marshall Plan, the founding of NATO and the Warsaw Pact, the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis and martial law in Poland.

The exhibition combines original exhibits with more than fifty multimedia elements: touch screens, VR goggles, a holographic wall and a cinema with 50 seats. The museum runs museum lessons for schools, guided tours in Polish and English, and a lecture series “Spotkanie z historią” (Meeting with History).
