About the museum
The Casa-Museu Acácio Lino, also known as the Casa das Figueiras (House of the Fig Trees), is in Travanca, in the municipality of Amarante, and commemorates the painter and sculptor Acácio Lino de Magalhães (1878–1956), who was born in the Casa da Pedreira, in Travanca. He studied at the Academia Portuense de Belas-Artes (Porto Academy of Fine Arts), where he later taught historical drawing, and developed a substantial part of his work in painting and history, as well as figures and scenes of a rustic character.
The house museum offers guided visits to the house, the gardens and the museum space, which includes the artist's studio. Among the pieces is a bust of Dina, the painter's great passion, which reveals Acácio Lino's talent for sculpture too. The site, surrounded by gardens and centuries-old trees, reflects the themes the artist cherished: nature and rural life.
Today the space hosts tertúlias (informal discussion gatherings), workshops and guided visits to the village, and allows visitors to taste and buy regional produce from the farm, such as jams, liqueurs and embroidery. It is on the list of cultural facilities of the Rota do Românico (Romanesque Route).
