About the museum

The Casal Saloio de Outeiro de Polima is a museum space of the municipality of Cascais, housed in a saloio rural house, one of the few that still recall the cultural heritage of the region. The house grew through successive additions, without a prior plan: a room, a side wing, a stone oven, a pen and a second floor were added, and two buttresses were added later to solve structural problems.

The rehabilitation, by the studio of Miguel Marcelino and completed in 2023, consolidated the house in its last recognisable form and added an extension of two volumes arranged in an L shape, which forms a courtyard with the existing buildings. The space opened as a museum in 2023.

The exhibition introduces the ways of life, traditions, knowledge and experiences of the saloio rural world, through recreated settings and objects that bear witness to the rural past of the municipality of Cascais. The casal also hosts temporary exhibitions and events, such as the Festa Saloia.
