About the museum
The museum is housed in a building constructed in the early 20th century as a watermill (azenha) on the Azinhaga da Sardinha, which used the waters of the Rio do Porto. It later became a stone sawmill and was eventually bought by the Câmara Municipal de Sintra to serve as a vehicle depot.
On 24 September 1974, the sculptor Pedro Augusto dos Anjos Teixeira (1908–1997) bequeathed to the municipality his estate and a large part of that of his father, Artur Gaspar dos Anjos Teixeira (1880–1935), so that the works of the two sculptors came to be brought together in the same space. The museum opened to the public in 1976 and remained open until 1982, when the building was closed for restoration and extension works. Pedro Anjos Teixeira then came to live in the property, which functioned as a house museum and studio where he taught sculpture between 1977 and 1992.
The route shows models and maquettes of works that adorn squares, streets and buildings across Portugal, as well as sculpture, drawing, medallic art, painting, correspondence and photography, with themes ranging from human and animal anatomy to customs, portraits and popular figures.
