About the museum
The museum is housed in a 17th-century house, bought and restored by the Grupo Típico de Ançã in 1990. The building, of vernacular design with a rectangular plan, has two floors and a staircase of Ançã stone leading to the first floor, with apron-style stone surrounds, sash windows and wooden doors.
Open to the public since 1991, it represents the typical house of Ançã and the everyday life of the people of Ançã in the early 20th century. On the first floor one can see the bedroom and the kitchen/living room, and the ground floor is used for permanent and temporary exhibitions. The collection comes largely from donations made by the people of Ançã to the Grupo Típico.
