Museu PortoCartoon

About the museum

The Museu PortoCartoon opened in November 2025 in the Palácio das Artes, on the Largo de São Domingos, in Porto's historic centre. It was founded as an institution dedicated to the art of caricature, graphic humour and illustrated satire, with an international collection of award-winning works, and draws on the legacy of the PortoCartoon World Festival, one of the largest cartoon festivals in the world.

The museum aims to bring this intangible heritage into a contemporary, interactive and inclusive museum experience. The route includes thematic exhibitions of cartoons with humour and satire, areas designed for photographs, an education area and a shop with exclusive merchandise.

The museum's mission is to promote, preserve and value the cartoon as a form of artistic expression and social criticism, creating a platform for dialogue between art, humour, culture, tourism and the great themes of the contemporary world. The museum presents itself as a reference centre for caricature and graphic humour in the Iberian Peninsula. The website offers virtual galleries of past exhibitions and a gallery of the award-winning cartoons.
