About the museum
The house was built within the housing development that Eusebi Güell wanted to create and was conceived as a show home. It was promoted by the contractor for the Park Güell works, Josep Pardo i Casanovas, and designed by Francesc Berenguer i Mestres, a friend and close collaborator of Gaudí.
In 1906 Gaudí's father bought the property, and the architect moved in with his father and his niece. After their deaths he lived alone, looked after by Carmelite nuns, until 1925, when he moved to the workshop of the Sagrada Família, where he died a year later.
After his death the house was sold and became the home of the Chiappo family. It opened to the public as the Casa Museu Gaudí on 28 September 1963. Since 2024 it has been run by Barcelona de Serveis Municipals (BSM), and its visit is part of the Park Güell route.
The museum shows the architect's most personal and religious side: it recreates some of his private rooms and displays everyday objects. It also brings together furniture designed by Gaudí for the Casa Calvet, the Casa Batlló and the crypt of the Colònia Güell, which shows how his design evolved. In the garden are wrought-iron pieces from the Casa Vicens and the Casa Milà, as well as the cross from the Miralles estate.
