About the museum
The Centro de Interpretación del Atún de Almadraba in Barbate opened on 30 October 2008 and was conceived as a permanent exhibition on the cultural and environmental heritage of bluefin tuna and of the traditional almadraba fishing method. It was located in the marina of Barbate.
The display was organised into thematic zones with exhibition material, two projections and a model with infographic animation. Its main teaching feature was a Pepper’s Ghost device, a stage box that combined a model with an animation to explain how the almadraba operates. In 2009 the average was around 100 visits a day.
The centre also offered the “Ruta de la Almadraba”, a trip aboard the boat Francisco Varo. Today the local guide barbate.net describes it as closed, and no reopening date has been published.
