About the museum

The Espacio Conmemorativo Casas Viejas 1933 opened in January 2015, eighty-two years after the events. It stands on Calle Nueva, on the spot where Seisdedos’ hut stood; it was razed by the assault forces during the repression of January 1933, in which more than twenty people died.

Its purpose is to explain why those events happened and some of the causes behind them, but also to be a permanent reminder and a tribute to the people who were murdered and to their families. Under the motto “Let us give memory back to those who never lost it”, the centre aims to help restore dignity and historical justice.

The visit is organised into several thematic rooms: a tribute to the victims, the Republic’s promises of change, the land question, life in Casas Viejas, the five days of January, a chronology of the tragedy and how people survived it.
