About the museum
The Visitor Centre of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia Maritime-Terrestrial National Park occupies the Edificio Cambón, a historic building in the old town of Vigo, behind the collegiate church of Santa María. It opened on 26 December 2012 and is owned and run by the Xunta de Galicia; the rehabilitation of the building was financed with funds from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
The centre occupies some 1,500 m² and includes an exhibition area, an auditorium, classrooms and offices. It presents the natural and cultural values of the Cíes, Ons, Sálvora and Cortegada islands in a highly artistic way, with paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, sounds and reliefs. Its most striking feature is four teleportation booths, one per archipelago, cabins with visual and interactive effects.
Visitors who come before travelling to the islands get a sample of their riches, as well as information and tips for enjoying their stay. Non-profit groups can arrange a guided tour with the park's team of guides.
