About the museum
The Museo Memoria de Andalucía opened in 2009 as a centre of CajaGranada Fundación. It presents itself as a museum for understanding the past and present of Andalusia, from the first prehistoric cultures to today, and is aimed at families, students, older people and visitors interested in Andalusian identity.
The route is spread over two floors around the Patio Elíptico (elliptical courtyard) and four rooms: “Diversidad de paisajes” (Diversity of Landscapes), on the natural environment and its use; “Tierra y ciudades” (Land and Cities), on the life of Andalusian communities in times of war and peace; “Modos de vida” (Ways of Life), on everyday life from Prehistory onwards; and “Arte y cultura” (Art and Culture), with artistic languages and outstanding figures.
The exhibition makes use of multimedia and interactive resources, such as “Ventanas de la historia” (Windows of History), a large audiovisual screen operated by gesture; “Protagonistas de la Historia” (Protagonists of History), with characters who tell their experience in the first person; and display cases with objects of recent memory. The museum also offers guided tours, workshops, film cycles and activities for schools and families.
