About the museum

The Museo Centro Gaiás is part of the Cidade da Cultura de Galicia, on Monte Gaiás, near Santiago de Compostela. It is conceived as an architectural landmark of the 21st century and is one of the most distinctive buildings in the complex, which was designed by Peter Eisenman. It stands some 43 metres high and has more than 16,000 square metres of floor area.

Its exhibition space covers 6,600 square metres spread over three floors. It mainly hosts large-scale temporary exhibitions and installations that, because of their size, could not be shown in other centres, and it works in cooperation with the Galician museum network and with international institutions.

The museum permanently displays two large-format works on floor 0. One is a mural by Luís Seoane painted in Argentina in the 1970s, commissioned by Isaac Díaz Pardo for the Porcelanas de Magdalena factory. The other, in the entrance hall, is the mural “Translación del cuerpo del Apóstol a Santiago” by Urbano Lugrís, painted around 1957 for a sanatorium in Compostela and installed in the museum in February 2023 after its restoration.
