About the museum

The collection is displayed in the building of the Facultade de Medicina e Odontoloxía of the University of Santiago de Compostela, on Rúa de San Francisco. It brings together antique instruments of Galician origin related to anaesthesia, surgery and resuscitation. Its interest lies in the fact that the Escola Compostelá de Medicina was the first faculty of medicine in Spain to use anaesthetics.

The holdings are supplemented by tools from other medical specialties, medicines, film material and photographs of prominent figures in Galician medicine. A large part of these pieces was donated by Galician doctors.
