About the museum
The Museo de Fósiles y Minerales is located within the Parque Granja Escuela Rey Felipe VI, in the Centro de Interpretación de la Naturaleza “Ingeniero Ramón Gavilán”. It opened in 2015 on the initiative of the Autonomous City of Melilla, which bought the first pieces from a private collector. The collection has since grown through donations and purchases.
It holds about 130 pieces from different geological ages, mostly remains of marine animals, as well as minerals. Using audiovisual resources, it illustrates changes in the natural environment over time, such as the rise in sea levels. The museum offers guided and educational visits, and it collaborates with the Faculty of Education and Humanities at the Melilla campus on workshops for students.
