About the museum
The museum occupies the church of San Juan del Moral, a 15th-century church in the centre of the town, and has been open since 2003. It brings together part of the historical and cultural heritage of Balmaseda and presents both historical and ethnographic aspects that help to recreate the town’s past.
Its collection includes works of art, books, documents and antique objects, and is divided into six sections: history, personalities, popular events, historic-artistic heritage, industry and traditions, and historic furniture.
The church’s Baroque tower plays the town anthem several times a day. The museum is one of the stops on the guided tours of the old town, which enter the building to explain the history of Balmaseda in more detail.
