About the museum
The Museo de la Caza y la Naturaleza is a privately owned museum, promoted by the Garoz family, located in one of the oldest streets of Los Yébenes, the town where the Montes de Toledo begin. Its message is based on taxidermy: the animals on display were captured and prepared in accordance with the law, and the museum aims to show younger generations that hunting can be a positive activity.
The visit is organised into three sections. The one devoted to hunting explains the methods, culture and weapons, with dioramas of all the hunting types practised in Spain, a collection of weapons from the Palaeolithic to the modern era and historical hunting costumes. The taxidermy section shows, in a laboratory, the techniques used from the 9th century to the present day. The third, called “Expediciones” (Expeditions), brings together mammals from Eurasia, Africa and America and a collection of European birds which the museum itself describes as the most complete in Europe.
The building also has an audiovisual room for workshops, talks and other events.
