About the museum
The Casa de la Sierra is one of the most emblematic buildings in Castilblanco de los Arroyos. It was commissioned in 1923 by Rafael Amorín Lazo, a member of a well-off family of the time, and today it is owned by the town council. It houses the municipal ethnological museum and the tourist office, and stands beside the pilgrims' hostel on the Camino de Santiago.
The museum offers a journey into the recent past to show how grandparents used to live. It presents in detail traditional trades that have disappeared or are in decline, such as the production of vegetable fibre (crin vegetal), handmade shoemaking and honey production, as well as everyday life in the village households and an overview of the town's most deeply rooted traditions.
The museum is listed in the Andalusian Museums Register as an Ethnographic and Contemporary Art Museum. The contemporary art section is based in the Teatro Municipal Miguel Fisac, opened in 2003 and the architect's last project, which has an auditorium, a library and an exhibition room.
